Economic-Based Expansion Opportunities for the University of Minnesota-Rochester
Rochester, Minnesota
The University of Minnesota Rochester (UMR) had plans to expand the campus. Development Strategies was retained to determine the financial requirements for the development, to analyze the economic impact of the growing institution, and to project the potential real estate scale of expanded academic and research programs. Development Strategies analyzed trends of targeted economic sectors in the nation, state, and local area.
Not surprisingly, the economy of Rochester, largely dominated by the presence of the Mayo Clinic and IBM, was well-positioned as a potential international center for the bio-infomatics industry. But without UMR’s expansion, the lack of a research university in Rochester actually tended to impede the regional growth and economic diversity.
