“Housing Our Future” Plan

Housing affordability has been a pressing issue affecting Charleston’s livability for many years. There has been a lot work to study and address affordability, but Charleston County has never created a comprehensive housing plan to guide its approach to the problem.  In response to this need, Development Strategies helped Charleston County to develop the Housing Our Future – a comprehensive action plan that defines housing needs, identifies strategies, and charts a sustainable course to tackle the issue.

Our Approach

For this work, Development Strategies quantified housing needs in the community and clarified factors contributing to low affordability.  The comprehensive action plan includes coordination with community stakeholders, County departments, and local committees to explore possible strategies and make recommendations.  An implementation plan outlines potential partnerships, a phasing strategy, and available resources to support recommended programs.
