Kansas City Chiefs and Arrowhead Stadium
Kansas City, Missouri, and Six-State “Chiefs Kingdom”
The Kansas City Chiefs Football Club hired Development Strategies in 2014 to analyze the economic impacts of the organization’s ongoing operations and patronage patterns at Arrowhead Stadium in four distinct, though overlapping, geographic areas: Jackson County, the state of Missouri, the 15-county bi-state Kansas City metropolitan area, and the six-state Chiefs Kingdom (Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Arkansans). The Chiefs had previously hired DS in 2006 and again in 2008 to conduct similar studies, but these focused on planned capital improvements to the Truman Sports Complex that includes both Kauffman Stadium and Arrowhead Stadium. The 2014 study produced a more comprehensive analysis on the direct and indirect (or multiplier) impacts that are triggered by the Chiefs’ operations and Arrowhead Stadium visitor/fan spending in the four geographic study areas. It also estimates major taxes that accrue to Missouri state government as a result of these impacts.
