Economic Impacts of Dynegy’s Energy Generation
State of Illinois
Dynegy Inc. is a public utility holding company providing wholesale power, capacity, and ancillary services in five states. Of its portfolio of 15 energy generation facilities with a net capacity of over 13,000 megawatts, 10 are in Illinois after acquiring them from Ameren Energy Resources in 2013. To create a baseline of business information about these plants, Development Strategies was commissioned by Dynegy to enumerate the scale of the company’s operations within the context of the state of Illinois and the local “labor market areas” around each energy center where the majority of employees live. There are two key topics in each enumeration: An economic and jobs impact (multiplier) analysis resulting from Dynegy’s annual spending; and a related public sector fiscal benefit analysis of Dynegy’s operations and multiplier effects.
